Whether or not you liked the Michael Bay produced reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles last year, the movie was still successful enough to warrant a sequel after grossing over $485 million worldwide.

That’s set to be released on June 3rd, 2016 and was announced shortly after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was released, a sure fire sign that Paramount Pictures see this as a major new franchise for them.

Regardless, it has now been revealed that the sequel will begin shooting next month in New York City and Buffalo, with Council Member Dan Garodnick telling the New York Daily News, “There is no better way to project the character of this city than through television and film. And what’s more New York than pizza-loving ninjas and a talking rat?” David Green is taking over directing duties from Jonathan Liebesman.

Bay will return to produce Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2, while cast members Megan Fox, April O’Neil, William Fichtner, Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Johnny Knoxville, Jeremy Howard, and Tony Shalhoub are all expected to reprise their roles from the first movie. Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec wrote the script.

Rumour has it that fan-favourite villains Bebop, Rocksteady, and Krang could be introduced in the sequel.
