While Spider-Man is expected to have a fairly notable role in Captain America: Civil War, Marvel has been keeping the character under wraps, with only a few minor details finding their way online (via Kevin Feige) and not so much as a single still from the movie released to date focusing on Peter Parker or any of the other heroes or villains who will appear.

That’s why this new detail from Spider-Man director Jon Watts is so interesting, as he has confirmed that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is going to be only 15 years old in the MCU.

We’ve known for some time that the hero will be in high school, and while Peter was this age in the comics when he was bitten by that radioactive spider, we’ve never seen a Spider-Man this young on the big screen. Despite that, don’t expect the origin story to be rehashed.

“There are only so many times you can kill Uncle Ben,” Watts said in a recent interview with Empire. “I love the idea of making a coming-of-age high-school movie. We’re really going to see Peter Parker in high school and get deeper into that side of it. He’s just 15 now.”

As for what makes 19 year old Tom Holland perfect for the role of Spider-Ma, the filmmaker added: “Tom was pretty perfect. He’s very athletic. He can actually do a backflip! If he didn’t already capture the spirit of the character, with that on top the kid is Spider-Man.” To find out what we want to see Spider-Man get up to in Marvel’s Phase 3, be sure to click here!
