It’s not clear exactly how the world will end in Roland Emmerich’s next film, based on the much argued notion that Shakespeare was not the author of the works attributed to him, but the idea of a Tudor apocalypse seems quite appealing really.

However it is not this film (which is called Anonymous – see the marvellous trailer here), but Emmerich’s next that we are concenred with today and THR are placing the director’s next project, entitled Singularity, with Sony’s Columbia Pictures. The studio have a long standing understanding with Emmerich: every few years he dreams up a new way of ending the world and Sony stump up the cash.

Coming Soon have confirmed that May the 17th 2013 will be the release date for the film and there are no details at all confirmed, except that Emmerich has written the script himself and the man is fond of a barnstorming end of days so perhaps that’s on the cards this time?

Its title may change however to avoid a clash with the forthcoming time travelling romance film from Roland Joffe called, obviously, Singularity.
