3. Pineapple Express
While James Franco and David Gordon Green’s Your Highness was a disappointment, their first collaboration was without a doubt one of the best comedies of the past few years, and certainly a highlight in the course of Franco’s career.
The 2008 stoner comedy is incredibly quotable, and after failing to make a huge impact at the box office (though it’s worth noting that it was still far from a flop), the movie has rightly gone down as something of a cult classic with fans, and talk of a sequel has never truly died down as a result of its popularity. As a clueless weed dealer who is forced to go on the run with an equally idiotic customer after they both became the targets of a ruthless drug lord, there were an awful lot of laughs to be had along the way and some surprisingly great – and hilarious -action sequences.
Pineapple Express gave Franco the chance to show off his comedic skills, and Saul is now one of those characters it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing anywhere near as well. His chemistry with Seth Rogen and Danny McBride also helped to make the movie stand out, and seeing the trio reunited in This is the End proved to be a real treat.
