Last year, it was revealed that Henry Cavill had formed his own production company, and the Man of Steel star (who will next be seen in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. with Armie Hammer) wasted no time in forging ahead with their first project. That will be a film revolving around a Special Forces officer which is titled Stratton.

It has been announced today that Simon West will direct the movie. He’s best known for Con Air, though more recent projects include the likes of The Mechanic, The Expendables 2, and the upcoming Wild Card.

Cavill has a very busy few years ahead of him, and 2016 will be a particularly big one as he goes into battle against Ben Affleck in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In Stratton, the British actor will take on the title role as an operative who leads a team to take down an international terrorist. This could be a new franchise for Cavill as the movie is actually based on Duncan Falconer’s well-received eight book series.

“I’ve long wanted to tell a story about the British Special Forces and finally the opportunity has come around.” Cavill said in a statement released today which announced the news. “Duncan Falconer’s work is fantastic and we are incredibly fortunate to be working with him so closely. We plan to convert the books to cinema as accurately as possible while keeping them topical. Simon West is a perfect match for this movie with his ability to marry story-telling and action, both of which are essential to do this project justice!”

It should be interesting to see how Stratton develops, and with West now attached to direct, the rest of the cast will undoubtedly start being put together over the coming weeks. Stay tuned to HeyUGuys for updates!
