Sharon Stone is set to play the supervillain in HBO’s upcoming DC comic adaptation of ‘Blue Beetle.’

Stone will join ‘Cobra Kai’ actor Xolo Maridueña who takes on the leading role of Jaime Reyes.

The story will centre on the 2006 Jamie Reyes iteration of the character – a Mexican-American teenager who discovers the Blue Beetle scarab on the way home from school with two of his best friends Paco and Brenda, the trinket half-buried in a disused lot.

Reyes takes the scarab home, curious as to what it might be. That night, it comes alive and grafts itself to the base of Jaime’s spine – providing him with a suit of extraterrestrial armour that can be modified to enhance his speed and strength as well as to create weapons, wings, and shields.

Angel Manuel Sot will direct from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer (“Miss Bala,” “Scarface”). George Lopez, Adrianna Barraza, Harvey Guillen, Bruna Marquezine, Damian Alcazar, Belissa Escobedo, and Elpidia Carrillo also star. John Rickard is producing.

The film will mark the first Latinx Superhero to be adapted for the big screen.

The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on August 18th next year.
