Given the circumstances, our junket interviews are somewhat different to our usual output, as we’ve had to adapt and chat to talented performers from around the world remotely. Lovie Simone – the star of Selah and the Spades – made this unique experience a comfortable and enjoyable one, as we discussed her role in this original drama.
We discuss with Simone the film’s creative spark, and whether that became apparent to the actress from reading the screenplay, while she also tells us whether the experience her character goes through bears any resemblance to her own high school memories. She also comments on her lasting friendships from school, and what it was like being a twin in such an environment.
We also get onto the subject of female friendships in film, what men can do to help create a fairer society for both sexes, and finally we ask for her tips on what we can do to keep busy and stimulated during this unique period of history that has led to us all being stuck indoors.
