After playing Steve Rogers’ best friend in Captain America: The First Avenger, Sebastian Stan made a surprise return (to non-comic book fans at least) as a brainwashed Bucky in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, he’s set to take on an even bigger role in Civil War as part of “Team Cap”, and if that movie follows the comics, major changes are coming for him.

At the end of Civil War, [SPOILER ALERT] Steve Rogers is assassinated, and Bucky later takes over as the new Captain America after stealing the shield from Tony Stark/Iron Man.

So, is becoming the new Captain America something the actor is looking forward to doing? “No, I really wouldn’t,” Stan revealed during an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival. “I think about that every day [Laughs]. It’s so not up to me to be honest. I really enjoy my job there, I’m really happy going to work and doing what I do, I love the character that I have…it’s up to a lot of different things, and whatever Marvel decides, I’m game.”

The actor also promises that Captain America: Civil War’s fight scenes will be more brutal than ever before, no great surprise considering the fact that the battle between The Avengers is going to be so personal. Bucky taking over from Steve still makes sense, though it’s likely that if it is going to happen, it won’t be until after the two-part Avengers: Infinity War…
