A major new addition has joined Sam Mendes’ ambitious ‘Beatles’ project. Four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan will portray Linda McCartney, the wife of Sir Paul McCartney, in the upcoming four-part Beatles biopic series from the acclaimed director.

Ronan joins Paul Mescal, who will star as Paul McCartney in Mendes’ unprecedented cinematic experiment: four separate feature films, each told from the perspective of one of the legendary band’s members.

Linda McCartney — a celebrated photographer, musician, and activist — married Paul in 1969. She went on to perform with him as the keyboardist and harmony vocalist in his post-Beatles band, Wings, before her death from cancer in 1998 at the age of 56.

Mendes’ quartet of films aims to chronicle the Beatles’ meteoric rise from Liverpool to global superstardom, as well as the personal and creative tensions that ultimately led to their 1970 breakup. Each film will offer a distinct point of view, intersecting to form a complete portrait of the band’s story.

The ensemble cast also includes Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. Additional cast members are expected to be announced soon.

Billed with the tagline, “Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary,” the interconnected films mark the first-ever Beatles features sanctioned by the band, with full life story and music rights granted by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison.

All four instalments are set to debut on the big screen in April 2028.
