You’ll be pleased to hear that things are still moving forward on the production of The Hobbit with the news that up and coming Irish actress Saoirse Ronan has been cast in the movie. This news comes from the casting director, Ros Hubbard after speaking with The Irish Film & Television Network.

Ronan has recently appeared in the Peter Weir movie, The Way Back and earned an Oscar nomination for Atonement back in 2007 as best Supporting Actress. Ronan has previously worked with Jackson in The Lovely Bones – although they might want to foget about that one since it didn’t do too well! Ronan’s part in The Hobbit isn’t clear as yet but she’d make a great Elf wouldn’t she!?

No the slightly more disaapointing news about the movie is that it looks like Production has been put back as Jackson has had to undergo minor surgery after complaining of stomach pains which turned out to be an ulcer. THR broke the news with the following statement from the studio:

“Sir Peter’s surgery is not expected to impact on his directing commitment to The Hobbit beyond a slight delay to the start of filming”

So hopefully shooting will begin in the very near future. Obviously we’ll keep you updated.
