To celebrate the release of the new thriller Every Breath You Take, which opens this weekend in the US, we had the chance to sit down with the lovely Sam Claflin to chat about the new, twisty film.

A searing psychological thriller from director Vaughn Stein (Terminal), Every Breath You Take tells the story of a psychiatrist (Casey Affleck), whose career is thrown into jeopardy when his patient takes her own life. When he invites his patient’s surviving brother (Sam Claflin) into his home to meet his wife (Michelle Monaghan) and daughter (India Eisley), his family life is suddenly torn apart.

Known for his roles in Me Before You, Journey’s End, and The Hunger Games, this role marks something of a darker edge for Claflin who says he reveled in doing something “against type” and jokes that since he became a dad, he seems to get a lot of scripts that are on the darker side. He tells us about the complexities and deep psychology of his character, the “throwback” feel, being part of a Gone Baby Gone reunion, and “replacing” Harrison Ford and/or Zac Efron in the film…

In addition, he gave us an update on his return of Peaky Blinders for its sixth season, for which he has finished shooting his scenes saying that there are plenty of big surprises in store.
