Ryan Gosling is reportedly in advanced talks to play the lead in Farragut North, an adaptation of the 2008 play by Beau Willimon.

Farragut North follows the exploits of a young marketing master Stephen Myers, who does whatever possible to get his candidate the presidential against a rival senator. Gosling is in line to play a young communications director who works for a fast rising presidential candidate.

George Clooney has been circling the directing gig since the project was housed at Warner Bros. in 2008, but nothing happened and Warner Bros. have since lost the rights.

Farragut North is now housed at Clooney’s personal production company Smokehouse Productions, and filming is expected to begin as early as March 2011.

Gosling will next be seen in the romantic-drama Blue Valentine, for which he may be a part of the Best Actor race at the Academy Awards.
