Rose Byrne first played Moira MacTaggert (a CIA Agent and Professor Xavier’s main love interest) in X-Men: First Class, and it has been revealed today that she will reprise that role in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

This is quite a surprise, especially as Charles wiped her memory the last time we saw her in this world.

However, that will be addressed in the movie according to writer and producer Simon Kinberg. “She’s a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them.”

X-Men: Apocalypse is set around 20 years after the events of X-Men: First Class, so it will be interesting how they handle her return. Kinberg however wasn’t willing to give away anything too specific! “It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one.”

Regardless of how it all goes down, it definitely sounds like X-Men: Apocalypse will bring an end to this era of X-Men movies, and specifically for the characters we first met in Matthew Vaughn’s 2011 movie.

“This movie is the completion of the first arcs of Charles, Eric, Raven, and Hank, who are essentially our main characters,” the writer explains. “They’re such young actors and young characters, so there’s a lot more story to tell. But as a first phase of their lives, there is this feeling of closure by the end of the movie.”
