A star-studded ensemble has come together for ‘The Girlfriend,’ the upcoming comedy from director Natalie Morales, with Rosario Dawson, Lamorne Morris, Joshua Jackson, Stephen Root, and Edi Patterson joining previously announced stars Meghann Fahy and Glenn Howerton.
Production is currently underway on the feature, which XYZ Films are producing alongside 21 Laps.
Written by Glenn Howerton and Rich Appel (Family Guy), The Girlfriend blends relationship comedy with an unconventional premise, promising plenty of awkward situations and sharp humour.

According to the official logline, Eve (Rosario Dawson) gives up her perfect New York City life and moves to Alabama for her husband Elliot’s (Glenn Howerton) dream job. As Eve becomes increasingly isolated, friendless and unhappy in her new surroundings, Elliot decides to solve the problem unusually by secretly hiring an escort, played by Meghann Fahy, to become his wife’s new best friend.
Behind the camera, Natalie Morales directs from a screenplay by Howerton and Appel. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine are producing for 21 Laps, alongside Jill Howerton and Glenn Howerton for Zoe Knife Productions. Rich Appel produces through Persons Unknown, while Guy Danella and Nick Spicer produce for XYZ Films. Richard Alan Reid produces for BuzzFeed Studios, with Lee Kim also serving as producer.
