After taking on minor roles in releases like Fast & Furious 7, The Expendables 3, and Entourage, UFC fighter Ronda Rousey has now added another movie to her schedule. It was revealed this summer that she will be starring in a movie based on her autobiography (playing herself, obviously), but MGM now want her for the lead part in Road House.

According to Variety, Rousey – who currently has an impressive 12-0 record in UFC – is being eyed to take over the role which Patrick Swayze made famous in the original movie.

In Road House, the late actor played a bouncer hired to clean up one of Missouri’s rowdiest, loudest bars, The Double Deuce. He then finds himself roped into taking on one of the town’s corrupt businessman, and the movie has since become a huge cult hit and one of Swayze’s most iconic and fondly remembered roles. There have been rumblings of a remake for some time now, but casting Rousey obviously points to a fresh new take on the story.

The trade adds that Rousey actually reached out to Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi to get her blessing to star in this new Road House, and she apparently was more than happy to give it. MGM is also looking for a writer for the project right now and are actively meeting with them.

Production on the movie is set to begin next year, so we’ll likely hear more very soon…
