Having finished work on “Carnage”, Roman Polanski (Knife in the Water, Chinatown, Rosemary’s Baby) is apparently looking around for his next project, with Focus Features hoping to hook him for “True Crime”.

True Crime is based on an article for The New Yorker by David Grann about a true-life long-unsolved murder case in Poland. The case had grown cold until a new detective came on board who tracked down a potential suspect who had written a novel about a murder case bearing remarkable similarity to the one now under investigation. Script work has been undertaken by Jeremy Brock (The Eagle, The Last King of Scotland), with *shudder* Brett Ratner on board as producer.

Whether the plan would be to film in Poland at historic locations, both in the interests of authenticity and also to save Polanski any fresh extradition issues, remains to be seen. In any event, Polanski is far from confirmed as on board. He is, for the moment, “circling”. We’ll keep you advised.

Dave Roper
Dave has been writing for HeyUGuys since mid-2010 and has found them to be the most intelligent, friendly, erudite and insightful bunch of film fans you could hope to work with. He's gone from ham-fisted attempts at writing the news to interviewing Lawrence Bender, Renny Harlin and Julian Glover, to writing articles about things he loves that people have actually read. He has fairly broad tastes as far as films are concerned, though given the choice he's likely to go for Con Air over Battleship Potemkin most days. He's pretty sure that 2001: A Space Odyssey is the most overrated mess in cinematic history.
