Roland Emmerich (2012) is in pre-production on The Zone, a found-footage film revolving around an alien invasion, set to be improv-based and cast with relative unknowns.

Sony, who will distribute the film as a negative pick-up, have confirmed a M budget, which is considerately less that what Emmerich’s films usually cost.

The Zone comes from a screenplay penned by Guillaume Tunzini. No other details are known, other than the casting of two leads, one playing the central journalist, while the other will portray the cameraman.

The Zone is expected to film in mid-November.
