Riddick-PosterIf you’re anything like me, you can’t wait for Vin Diesel to return to the big screen in not one but two of the year’s most promising blockbuster sequels. First up will of course be Fast and Furious 6, which hits our screens this Friday (and next Friday, if you’re in the US). And then all eyes will be on September, for the return of Riddick.

Diesel shared with us a brilliant first teaser trailer back in March, giving us a thirty-second glimpse at his return to the infamous character. And now Universal have released the film’s first full-length trailer, via Machinima, which is set to be attached to Fast and Furious 6 next weekend, along with an awesome new poster.

Riddick, the latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000’s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx).  Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless.  Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered.  The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal.  With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Karl Urban reprises his role as Vaako from the second movie. And starring alongside them will be Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Nolan Gerard Funk, Keri Hilson, and WWE’s Dave Bautista.

David Twohy is once more directing from his own script, with Diesel himself producing alongside Ted Field (Pitch Black, The Last Samurai) and Samantha Vincent (Fast & Furious, Fast Five).

Riddick will be hitting hard in regular and IMAX theatres on September 6th. Whilst we eagerly await its arrival, here’s the awesome new trailer to whet your appetite. And I am loving that new slogan, ‘Rule The Dark’.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
