Vin-Diesel-in-RiddickRiddick is by far one of my most anticipated films of the year, seeing leading man Vin Diesel reunite with David Twohy for the third film in the franchise, following Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.

The last we heard from the film was its release date, which Universal setting it for release on 6th September this year, and giving it an IMAX release to make things that much sweeter.

We saw an awesome first international poster surface late last year, and continuing on from that, Diesel has shared with us another great image from the upcoming film through his Facebook, giving us a brilliant new look at him in the eponymous lead.

“The latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000’s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx). Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless. Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered. The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal. With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.”

Karl Urban reprises his role from the sequel, with the two starring alongside Katee Sackhoff, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Nolan Gerard Funk, Keri Hilson, and WWE’s Dave Bautista.

Twohy is once more back at the helm, directing from his own script, with Diesel himself producing alongside Ted Field (Pitch Black, The Last Samurai) and Samantha Vincent (Fast & Furious, Fast Five).

Riddick will be hitting the big screen in regular and IMAX theatres on 6th September in the US, which really can’t come fast enough. This is going to be amazing, and I can’t wait for it to arrive. For now, here’s the great new image, which you can click through to enlarge.
