Regina Hall has signed up to star in the sequel to 1988’s ‘Midnight Run’ at Universal Pictures.

Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin starred in the original which was released 33 years ago. It saw De Niro play a bounty hunter who pursues a former Mafia accountant (played by the late Charles Grodin) after he skips bail.

It is not known if De Niro will be starring but he will take on the role of a producer on the feature. Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Aeysha Carr will be penning the screenplay. Plot details and additional cast members are locked sleeping with the fishes for the time being.

Of the back of the popularity of the first film, it spawned an additional three made-for-television features. De Niro and Grodin did not appear in those follow-ups.

Hall will also serve as a producer under her RH Negative banner. Additional producers include Jesse Collins (“The New Edition Story,” “American Soul”) via Jesse Collins Entertainment and Jane Rosenthal for Tribeca. Berry Welsh will executive produce for Tribeca. Universal Pictures’ senior VP of production development Sara Scott will oversee on behalf of the studio.
