Dean Parisot’s RED 2 is definitely shaping up to be one of my favourite films of the year, following on from the brilliant 2010 action/comedy original.
The first teaser trailer that debuted earlier in the year gave us a great flavour of what to expect for the second time around. And after seeing a handful of new character posters this week, Yahoo Movies have debuted a further two posters, ahead of the release of the new trailer later today.
In RED 2, the high-octane action-comedy sequel to the worldwide sleeper hit, retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses reunites his unlikely team of elite operatives for a global quest to track down a missing portable nuclear device. To succeed, they’ll need to survive an army of relentless assassins, ruthless terrorists and power-crazed government officials, all eager to get their hands on the next-generation weapon. The mission takes Frank and his motley crew to Paris, London and Moscow. Outgunned and outmanned, they have only their cunning wits, their old-school skills, and each other to rely on as they try to save the world-and stay alive in the process.
Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, and Brian Cox take the lead once more. And they’re joined by an awesome new line-up, led by Catherine Zeta-Jones, Anthony Hopkins, Lee Byung-hun, Neal McDonagh, and David Thewlis.
Parisot (Galaxy Quest, Fun with Dick and Jane) is taking over at the helm in Robert Schwentke’s place, with brothers Erich and Jon Hoeber penning the script once more.
RED 2 will be hitting US theatres on July 19th, with its UK release date set for 2nd August. This is definitely one you’ll want to see this summer. For now, here are the latest character posters for Hopkins and Lee, and be sure to come back later to catch the full new trailer.
