Rachel Weisz (The Mummy) is in talks to star in Walt Disney Pictures’ Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Weisz is in line to play Evanora, a powerful and evil witch who intends to rule the land, and will star opposite James Franco (127 Hours) and Mila Kunus (Date Night).

Oz: The Great and Powerful is a semi-prequel to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, told from the point of view of the Wizard, and tells how the Wizard arrived in Oz and became the ruler.

Sam Raimi (Drag Me to Hell) is attached to direct, with production expected to begin later this summer.

Weisz will be seen next in Jim Sheridan’s mystery-thriller Dream Home, opposite Naomi Watts (Fair Game) and Daniel Craig (Cowboys & Aliens).
