Call of Duty Black Ops PS3 BanJust when Treyarch thought they’d pulled off the biggest launch of the year, it appears that consumer rantiness is set to bring them crashing back down to earth.

A growing number of gamers are signing a petition asking for a refund on the PS3 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops, claiming that it is ‘inferior’ to its multi-platform counterparts.

The grumbling gamers believe that the PS3 version of the massively popular FPS offers “sub-par graphics, buggy software, and less features” than its Xbox 360 equivalent.

And, in both cases, developer Treyarch and Activision will find it hard to argue differently.

The PS3 edition shipped without some of its promised features, such as online split-screen functionality, and since its launch the developer’s forums have been inundated with PS3 players complaining about a considerable amount of in-game bugs.

To make matters worse, Digital Foundry’s recent report on the game’s visuals found the PS3 seriously wanting when displayed next to the “clearly superior-looking” Xbox 360.

“Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 had the same amount of development time?,” the petition questions.

“Is it fair to charge Playstation 3 owners the same price for an inferior product, when the previous version (Modern Warfare 2) was equal on both systems but the updated version is not?”.

While they may have a point, we’re not entirely sure a couple of patches or DLC bolt-ons will help ease the unrest.
