A24 has released the teaser trailer for ‘Primetime,’ the upcoming feature from acclaimed documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim in his scripted feature directorial debut.
Best known for the HBO documentary series ‘Ren Faire,’ Oppenheim steps into darker territory with the film, which draws inspiration from the controversial early 2000s television phenomenon “To Catch a Predator,” the hidden-camera segment that aired as part of NBC’s ‘Dateline NBC.’
The original series followed journalist Chris Hansen as he worked alongside law enforcement in sting operations targeting adult men attempting to meet minors for sex. The investigations became a pop culture lightning rod, blending true crime, tabloid television and public spectacle into one of the era’s most talked-about TV formats.
In ‘Primetime,’ Robert Pattinson takes on a role inspired by Hansen, portraying a television personality navigating the murky intersection of crime, media sensationalism and entertainment. According to the official synopsis, the film explores how these operations transformed the television landscape and helped usher in a new era of reality-driven programming.
Joining Pattinson in the cast are Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Matthew Maher and Bokeem Woodbine.
The screenplay comes from Ajon Singh, while Pattinson also serves as a producer alongside Lance Oppenheim, Brighton McCloskey, Brian Kavanaugh Jones, Fred Berger, Lars Knudsen, Ari Aster and Tyler Campellone.
