Planes:-Fire-and-Rescue-Poster-sliceEven before Planes hit the big screen last year, Disney were ready to announce that it would be followed this summer by Planes: Fire and Rescue, the second instalment in the spin-off to Pixar’s Cars franchise.

The studio launched the first full-length trailer for the sequel earlier this year, and with its summer release now on the horizon, we’ve got a new UK poster to share this evening, giving us a look at Dusty’s return alongside new characters Lil’ Dipper and Cabbie.

When world-famous air racer Dusty learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting. Dusty joins forces with veteran fire and rescue helicopter Blade Ranger and his team, a bunch of all-terrain vehicles known as The Smokejumpers. Together, the fearless team battles a massive wildfire, and Dusty learns what it takes to become a true hero.

Dane Cook reprises his leading role as the voice of Dusty Crophopper, and the ever-hilarious Julie Bowen takes the female lead as Lil’ Dooper, with Curtis Armstrong, Ed Harris, Dale Dye, Wes Studi, Regina King, Matt Jones, Fred Willard, and more heading the up the supporting cast.

Bobs Gannaway (Secret of the Wings) is directing, with John Lasseter himself executive producing.

The success of the series so far certainly begs the question as to whether we might see Disney tackle more Pixar-related projects like this in the future. Perhaps the beloved three-eyed aliens in Toy Story could get their own franchise? Time will tell.

Planes: Fire and Rescue will be released in 3D on July 18th in the US, with its UK release date following on 8th August. For now, here’s the new poster, which you can click through to enlarge.
