Ant-Man 1

Marvel’s plans for Ant-Man were seemingly thrown into disarray when Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) left the movie over “creative differences”, but a little over a week later, the Kevin Feige led studio has chosen Yes Man and The Break-Up helmer Peyton Reed to take over directing duties.

He emerged as a frontrunner late yesterday evening via the trades, but it was made official today.

With a release date of July 17th, 2015, Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Corey Stoll and Patrick Wilson and has a script from Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish. However, the press release also mentions that Anchorman’s Adam McKay will now contribute to the screenplay!

Marvel have also released the first official synopsis for the movie which you can read below.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

This doesn’t tell us an awful lot that hadn’t been alluded to in the past, but it sounds as if it will differ from the comics as Lang won’t steal the Ant-Man suit from Pym and they will work together in order to pull off a mission which has huge ramifications for the world. What could that be? We’ll have to wait and see!
