Peter-DinklageBryan Singer’s return to the X-Men universe with X-Men: Days of Future Past has fast become one of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2014.

The sequel to X-Men: First Class is set to bring together the casts of both the original films and the reboot, and that is definitely a blockbuster worth looking forward to.

Adding to the already-exceptional cast, Bryan Singer has announced that Peter Dinklage has joined the cast. And Variety have followed it up by confirming that he’ll be playing the villain. Via Singer’s Twitter:

“Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast Very very excited!”

As of yet, the identity of Dinklage’s villain is unknown, but his role is reported to be that of the main antagonist. And that, in itself, is definitely an exciting prospect.

He’s joining a cast that includes James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult from X-Men: First Class, and Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, and Shawn Ashmore from the original films. Essentially: X-Men: Days of Future Past is going to be incredible.

Singer will be back at the helm in place of Matthew Vaughn, directing from a script co-written by Vaughn, Jane Goldman, and Simon Kinberg.

Dinklage has particularly gained recognition in recent years, following his Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning performance in HBO’s Game of Thrones. And seeing him take the lead antagonist role here, adding to an exceptional cast, is very promising.

X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled for release on 18th July, 2014. Shooting is set to begin this April, and the odds are very good that it’s going to be one of the biggest and best films of next year. I can’t wait. More as we get it.
