The countdown to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim is now at less than three months, and the anticipation couldn’t be much higher.
The latest trailer debuted at the start of the year, giving us another awesome look at the epic scope of the upcoming monster blockbuster. And now the Indian arm of Warner Bros. have released the first TV spot, giving us still more to look forward to this summer.
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman take the lead, making up a pretty brilliant cast.
Del Toro is directing from a script by Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans).
The studio have already been talking about developing a sequel for Pacific Rim, months before the film even arrives in theatres. And that should give you an idea of the faith they have that this is going to be a big hit. And, judging by what we’ve seen so far, it’s easy to understand why.
Pacific Rim will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 12th. Be sure to commit that release date to memory, because this is going to be one awesome ride. Here’s the first TV spot to give you a taste of what to expect. Enjoy.
