Olympus-Has-Fallen-PosterThe White House will be under attack in two big blockbusters this year, and coming first out the gate will be Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen.

Gerard Butler returns to action-thriller territory this spring, and with Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman completing the leading trio, there’s naturally a lot to look forward to.

We got a first tease of Butler on a new poster late last year, and now Apple have debuted the first trailer, along with a new teaser poster.

“When the White House (Secret Service Code: “Olympus”) is captured by a terrorist mastermind and the President is kidnapped, disgraced former Presidential guard Mike Banning finds himself trapped within the building. As our national security team scrambles to respond, they are forced to rely on Banning’s inside knowledge to help retake the White House, save the President, and avert an even bigger disaster.”

Starring alongside Butler, Eckhart, and Freeman is a great supporting cast, headed up by Ashley Judd, Radha Mitchell, Melissa Leo, Angela Bassett, Dylan McDermott, Robert Forster, and Rick Yune.

Fuqua (Training Day) is directing from a script co-written by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, both of whom make their debuts as screenwriters here.

Later in the year, we can look forward to seeing Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx, and Maggie Gyllenhaal lead the Roland Emmerich take on the idea, White House Down. And with its similarly brilliant cast, it’s another big film to get excited about later this year.

Olympus Has Fallen will be hitting the US on 22nd March, with its UK release date set for 19th April. For now, here’s the first trailer to set the tone. And following it is the new teaser poster, which you can click through to enlarge.
