Back in January 2019, Tom Cruise made the announcement that both M:I 7 and 8 are in the pipeline with Christopher McQuarrie at the helm. Both projects in the franchise will be filmed back to back with scheduled releases coming with instalment 7 in the summer of 2021 and the eighth in 2022.

McQuarrie had already made it clear he was looking to do something ‘different’ and had meeting’s with Paramount to possible work on the Michael B. Jordan lead Tom Clancy adaptation ‘Without Remorse’. Paramount has convinced him differently after the runaway success of ‘Fallout’. Wanting to build on that, we can imagine they put in an offer he simply could not refuse.
