Tatooine

She doesn’t have a single acting credit to her name, but Maisie Richardson-Sellers is said to to be in the running for what has been described as “an undisclosed and possibly major role” in J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars Episode VII.

The Oxford-educated actress could be in line for the part which was recently described in a casting call as a young black or mixed-race woman who may be a descendent of Jedi Knight Obi Wan Kenobi. In the film (which takes place 30 years after the events of Return of the Jedi) she would presumably have a vital role.

Hundreds of actors have auditioned, and The Hollywood Reporter does say that other sources tell them that Richardson-Sellers hasn’t been offered a role. It’s interesting to see her name emerge however.

Meanwhile, in related Star Wars Episode VII news, it has been revealed that J.J. Abrams and Disney are planning to build an extensive re-creation of Tatooine in  Morocco. The original set was based in Tunisia.

So far, a number of actors have been attached to the movie, including Lupita Nyong’o, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Adam Driver, Hugo Weaving and Gary Oldman. Here’s hoping we get an official announcement soon!
