Steven Spielberg returns to the big screen in the height of Oscar season with Lincoln, which opened in a limited release to very strong numbers at the weekend.

Starring Daniel Day-Lewis as the eponymous US President, the film goes wide in America on Friday, and after catching a powerful new trailer for the film last week, a new thirty-second TV spot has debuted online, teasing Day-Lewis’ acclaimed performance.

“Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.”

Starring alongside him will be a fantastic cast, headed up by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, John Hawkes, Jared Harris, Jackie Earle Haley, James Spader, Lee Pace, David Oyelowo, and David Straithairn.

Spielberg is directing from a script by the Oscar-nominated Tony Kushner (Munich), who adapts the original book, Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Lincoln is currently playing in select US theatres, and will be opening wide this Friday, 16th November. Here in the UK, the film will be reaching our shores in the New Year on 25th January, but when it comes to Spielberg and Day-Lewis, you know it’s going to be worth the wait. For now, here’s the new TV spot to set the mood.
