The eyes of Anthony Hopkins are being used to sell this film to the waiting masses, and there’s a feeling in the images and trailers we’ve seen so far that The Rite will feature another Hopkins as Hopkins performance, though that is no bad thing.

True stories and Exorcisms goes together like pea soup and priests and so we are told in this new trailer that this tale was inspired by such actual events, unfortunately the trailer is full of jump scares, CG conjured demons and pithy exchanges of wit so rarely found in the real world.

Nonetheless if you bought The Last Exorcism or are a fan of the horror then this one looks slick, if derivative. If scare is your thing then go to it, and check out the trailer below. Contains cats and nuns.

Look out – here’s a synopsis,

Inspired by true events, “The Rite” follows skeptical seminary student Michael Kovak (Colin O’Donoghue), who reluctantly attends exorcism school at the Vatican. While in Rome, he meets an unorthodox priest, Father Lucas (Anthony Hopkins), who introduces him to the darker side of his faith. Directed by Mikael Hafstroem (“1408?), “The Rite” is a supernatural thriller that uncovers the devil’s reach to even one of the holiest places on Earth.

The movie is out in the UK 25th February. Here’s the trailer:
