Marc Webb’s Spider-Man film is getting a few new cast members to join Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans and Emma Stone, and one name in particular is rumoured to have singed up to play one of the villains of the piece.

THR have the story that Campbell Scott and Julianne Nicholson are talking to Sony about joining the film as Peter Parker’s parents, though there’s no more information as to how prominently they’ll feature and in what context it’s an interesting addition to the story of Peter Parker and one that hasn’t been a big part of the previous big screen outings.

The report also that Indian actor Iffran Khan is nearing a dotted line to play a villain THR are calling Van Atter, which the internet consensus has corrected to Nels Van Adder, a worker at Oscorp who becomes a ‘demon-like being’ known as the Proto-Goblin after Norman Osborn tests a serum on his employee. Cue ethical wrangling and huge disaster, presumably occurring just in time for a certain superhero to burst onto the scene and save the day.

Perhaps the battle with the Proto-Goblin will be the first battle for the fledgling Spider-Man, before Rhys Ifans’ Lizard gets involved.
