The gender change of Watson is, no doubt, a cause for alarm for many, but given that Liu is an incredibly talented actress, and that the Holmes stories have been told many times over already, a new take like this could certainly be interesting – much like Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey, Jr.’s injection of awesomeness into the character, alongside the BBC’s own recent re-imagining of Arthur Conan Doyle’s literary hero.
A new poster for the programme has now debuted over at EW ahead of its start this September.
“In a modern-day take on Sherlock Holmes, the iconic detective is taking on New York. Just out of rehab, he’s been assigned to live with his worst nightmare-sober coach, Dr. Joan Watson. Holmes’s unsurpassed skills of deduction and Watson’s medical expertise come together to create a dream team for solving the NYPD’s most impossible cases.”
Michael Cuesta, whose credits include Dexter, Six Feet Under, and Homeland, is behind the camera for the pilot. And in case you missed it, you can click here for a look at a trailer/preview for the new series.
Elementary will begin airing on 27th September across the Atlantic on CBS, and will hopefully be airing here in the UK later this year too. Sky have acquired the rights to the programme, continuing their acquisition of some of the biggest programmes coming out of America in recent years.
