Given the aerial boat battles and Matrix style swordplay we’ve seen so far from Paul W. S. Anderson’s ‘adaptation’ of Alexandre Dumas’ classic tale of The Three Musketeers these new pictrues are a touch tame.

In fact I’d expected Mads Mikkelsen to be half robot and Logan Lerman to be conversing with a seven hundred foot Buddha while riding a metal unicorn but sadly it’s not to be. The Mikkelsen picture is admittedly a nice image with his Rochefort looking every bit as evil as the iteration played by Christopher Lee in the Richard Lester films.

Gabriella Wilde is the blonde in the corset standing in front of the Palace wind machine and the man Lerman is getting a hair cut – all of which points to a fun and frolicsome time (in 3D) for Anderson and his team to take the legend of the Musketeers and wrench it firmly from its housing in any kind of sanity. Christoph Waltz is pretty much the standout reason to see this one. It’ll either be brilliant fun or, well, not.
