Robert-Downey-Jr.-in-Iron-Man-3Iron Man 3 is undeniably one of the most anticipated films of 2013, and we couldn’t be more excited for Phase Two in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to kick off.

The epic first trailer hit back in October, giving us an immense first look at the follow-up to Joss Whedon’s The Avengers. And more recently, we’ve had a little extra footage teased in the Japanese trailer, and two new images that surfaced with the addition of a new cast member.

As the film’s Spring 2013 release date inches closer, Marvel have now released an awesome new image of Robert Downey, Jr. looking more than a little bloodied, and you just know that the scene it’s from is going to be amazing.

“Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?”

Downey, Jr. is once more joined by a brilliant cast, headed up by Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale, Jon Favreau, Wang Xueqi, and Ben Kingsley, with Paul Bettany expected to reprise his role as the voice of JARVIS.

Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) is making a highly anticipated reunion with Downey, Jr. here, with Black directing from a script he co-wrote with Drew Pearce (the upcoming Sherlock Holmes 3).

Iron Man 3 is set for release in 3D on 26th April, 2013 here in the UK, with its US release date set slightly later for the superhero blockbuster slot, 3rd May. This is going to be amazing. For now, here’s the brilliant new image of Tony Stark / Iron Man, which you can click through to enlarge.
