Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently in theatres with his brilliant performance in The Dark Knight Rises, which continues to excel at box offices around the globe, and in just a few short weeks, he’ll be back on the big screen, this time in a leading capacity, in Premium Rush.

We’ve seen plenty of great things from the film already, giving us a feel for the action and thrills we have coming our way soon, and now Yahoo Movies have debuted a new featurette going behind the scenes, taking a look at the story.

“Dodging speeding cars, crazed cabbies, open doors, and eight million cranky pedestrians is all in a day’s work for Wilee, the best of New York’s agile and aggressive bicycle messengers. It takes a special breed to ride the fixie — super lightweight, single-gear bikes with no brakes and riders who are equal part skilled cyclists and suicidal nutcases who risk becoming a smear on the pavement every time they head into traffic.

But a guy who’s used to putting his life on the line is about to get more than even he is used to when a routine delivery turns into a life or death chase through the streets of Manhattan. When Wilee picks up his last envelope of the day on a premium rush run, he discovers this package is different. This time, someone is actually trying to kill him.”

Starring alongside Gordon-Levitt in the lead will be the excellent Michael Shannon, Dania Ramirez, Jamie Chung, and Aasif Mandvi, with David Koepp (Spider-Man) directing from a script he co-wrote with John Kamps (Ghost Town).

With Gordon-Levitt starring in the summer blockbuster of this year, and Shannon starring in the summer blockbuster of next year, Man of Steel, it should be a lot of fun to see the two opposite each other in this action/thriller in between.

Premium Rush will be hitting theatres in the US next weekend, on 24th August, before heading to the UK a little later on 14th September. And it will of course be swiftly followed by Gordon-Levitt’s turn in Looper, which looks immense. It’s a good time to be a fan of his work. I can’t wait.
