Billed as a political thriller in tights Roland Emmerich is taking a step back from blowing up worlds to blowing our minds as he sets out the premise that Shakespeare not only never wrote any of the plays credited to him, but also never existed. Blimey.

Anonymous has an exceptional cast in Rhys Ifans, Xavier Samuel, Jamie Campbell Bower, Joely Richardson, David Thewlis, Vanessa Redgrave, Derek Jacobi and Rafe Spall, and is set for release on the 28th of October, at the close of the London Film Festival where eager London bound film fans will be able to see the film a little early.

The clip below, lovingly laid at our feet by the Duke of Yahoo, was one we saw recently at the Big Screen event and it didn’t blow our codpiece off I have to say. The period detail certainly evokes the spirit of the age but the film had a very po-faced tone, something that I’m fairly confident will be balanced out in the final film.
