The Master PosterPaul Thomas Anderson’s highly-anticipated The Master is heading to both Venice and Toronto in the next few weeks, and after debuting a brilliant new clip from the film last week, the official website has released another excellent clip, in promotion of a charity screening being held tonight at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco.

For all those who can attend, the special benefit screening will begin at 8 p.m., with tickets priced at $10 (you can buy yours here), and all proceeds will be going to The Film Foundation.

Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix star opposite each other in the leads, and the remarkable first trailer was released last month to set the anticipation that much higher.

“Written and directed by Academy Award nominee Paul Thomas Anderson (the acclaimed director of, There Will Be Blood, Magnolia and Boogie Nights), this story stars Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote) and Academy Award-nominee Joaquin Phoenix (Walk the Line). Set in America in the years following World War II, a charismatic intellectual (Hoffman) launches a faith-based organization and taps a young drifter (Phoenix) as his right-hand man. But as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the one time vagabond finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor. A truly one-of-a-kind drama, which promises magnetic virtuoso performances, the film marks the fifth collaboration between Anderson and Hoffman, following Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch Drunk Love.”

Starring alongside Hoffman and Phoenix will be strong support in the form of Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, and David Warshovsky, with Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood (There Will Be Blood, Magnolia) composing the score.

The Master will be heading to Venice and Toronto next month, before opening in a limited release in the US on 14th September, followed by a wide release on 21st September. Here in the UK, it will hit theatres on 9th November, but it certainly looks like it will be worth the wait, and is likely going to be seeing an awards campaign as we head into Oscar season. For now, enjoy this great new clip.
