Ben Affleck’s Argo has emerged as a strong contender in the coming awards season since its debut at Telluride and TIFF. The film screened as one of the biggest films in the BFI London Film Festival last week, where we got a chance to speak to Affleck and co-stars John Goodman and Bryan Cranston, as well as producer Graham King, and you can watch those interviews right here.

Based on a true story, the film did very well at the US box office when it opened last weekend, and is set for release in the UK early next month, and now Warner Bros. have released a new 60-second TV spot showcasing the brilliant reviews it’s been getting.

“Based on true events, Warner Bros. Pictures’ and GK Films’ dramatic thriller “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis–the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.”

Affleck stars in the lead, with support from a fantastic ensemble, headed up Goodman, Scoot McNairy, Cranston, Alan Arkin, Kyle Chandler, Taylor Schilling, Clea DuVall, and Tate Donovan.

Chris Terrio penned the script, adapting the fascinating original 2007 Wired article by Joshuah Bearman, How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran, which you can (and should) read here.

Argo is currently playing in theatres across the US, and will be arriving here in the UK on 7th November, a date I’m really looking forward to. Here’s to hoping that the film will be heading to the Oscars in a few months’ time.
