Neal H. Moritz, the producer behind the likes of I Am Legend, Prison Break,21 Jump Street, and all the Fast & Furious films, has announced that he and his production company, Original Films, are moving forward with a new take on the Sleeping Beauty tale that will re-imagine it as a comedy.

The film will be a modern-day retelling, THR report,

“that finds the male protagonist accidently awakening Sleeping Beauty and finding that he can’t get rid of the lovestruck heroine.”

Moritz will be producing alongside Original Films partner Amanda Lewis, and has already set Mike Gagerman and Andrew Waller to pen the script.

The producer’s credits to date have largely seen him shepherding action/thriller projects like Fast & Furious, Prison Break, and the upcoming Total Recall remake, but21 Jump Streetdid very well at the box office, proving himself adept with overseeing comedies as well.

He’s also got the anticipated R.I.P.D. due out next year, with Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges taking the lead in the action/comedy, and this new project definitely sounds like it has potential.

A contemporary take on Sleeping Beauty that recasts the heroine as a stalker is almost definitely a film I’d love to see. Here’s to hoping that the project will move along nicely in the months to come, with some big names coming on board soon.

Personally, I think Emma Roberts could be brilliant in a role like this. Who would your dream cast be? Let us know in the comments below.
