Today sees the release of Damian Lee’s A Dark Truth whose scene is set in an investigation of a massacre in a village somewhere in South America by a former CIA operative. Lee has attracted a solid cast to the project included Forest Whitaker, Eva Longoria and Andy Garcia and the politically charged nature of the film suggested to us it was time to shine a light in the faces of other conspiracy films.
The 1960s and the 1970s saw a surge in political conspiracy thriller films and over the next few decades real life events were mirrored with increasing frequency and decreasing subterfuge as to the people they are portraying.
In this list we look at some of the grandest conspiracies in cinematic history ranging from sci-fi thrillers to the quagmire of political deceit. Real life will always offer a rich foundation of intrigue and the recent films such as The Insider and State of Play show the genre isn’t going anywhere.
