From the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival we present the press conference highlights for mother! written and directed by Darren Aronofsky and starring Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Harris, Domhnall Gleeson, and Kristen Wiig.
A new film from Aronofsky is always a pleasure, and the slow drip of marketing which the movie has released thus far teases a dark psychological thriller in the vein of Black Swan and The Fountain. During the press conference Aronofsky admitted that ‘the whole campaign has been about mystery. As the film plays out…it shifts and becomes something else, and then becomes something else.’
Jennifer Lawrence also talked about the ideas at play, ‘it’s allegorical, it’s these huge ideas that are universal, biblical, and he’s created a narrative through them. I had never heard anything like it.’

We can echo the director’s wishes – AVOID SPOILERS – and see this one fresh, but do see it. We need more studio films that come from original ideas, and capture something elemental in their wake.
You can see the press conference highlights right here, mother! is released in cinemas on the 15th of September.
