From the 2017 Toronto Film Festival we present the press conference highlights for Molly’s Game, written and directed by The West Wing’s Aaron Sorkin. It is adapted from the real life tale as told by Molly Bloom, and is the directorial debut from the Oscar-winning scribe.

The film stars Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera, Chris O’Dowd and tells the true story of an Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game and became an FBI target. Her players included movie stars, business titans and, unbeknownst to her, the Russian mob.

The film has all the hallmarks of a fine Sorkin production. A terrific ensemble cast, a well of ambiguity and, at it roots, the search for a fundamental truth beyond the obvious.

In the press conference Sorkin talks about the first meeting Molly Bloom for the first time and how she, in true Studio 60 fashion, ‘knocked his socks off’. He also talked about finding the story ‘behind the story’, why Bloom left certain things out of the book. Jessica Chastain eloquently explains how she explored the character of Molly Bloom, and the tension inherent in her character which made her an unforgettable role.

You can see the press conference highlights below, the film is released on the 22nd of November in the US, and Boxing Day in the UK.
