The BBC has launched the official trailer for ‘Mint,’ teasing an eight-part series that fuses romance with the volatile gravity of crime families, and it looks ready to leave a mark.
Created by Charlotte Regan, the mind behind the quietly electric ‘Scrapper,’ ‘Mint’ shifts gears into something more combustible. At its core is a love story wrapped in barbed wire—tender, reckless, and possibly doomed.
The trailer introduces us to Shannon, played by Emma Laird, the daughter of a dominant Glasgow crime family. She’s not looking for trouble—just love. Unfortunately, in her world, the two tend to arrive hand in hand.
Enter Arran, portrayed by newcomer Loyle Carner, a member of a rival family whose arrival sparks something immediate and incendiary. Their connection feels less like a meet-cute and more like a collision course.
At the heart of ‘Mint’ is a familiar yet freshly sharpened premise—two people falling for each other when they absolutely shouldn’t. Shannon and Arran’s romance unfolds under the looming shadow of their families’ criminal empires, where loyalty is currency and betrayal is fatal.
But ‘Mint’ isn’t just about turf wars or power plays. It’s about emotional inheritance. Shannon’s father, Dylan, is stepping down from his role as head of the family for reasons that ripple through the story like a shockwave. His second-in-command, Sam, begins to take over, but his leadership style sets off alarm bells that echo across the series.
Instead of focusing solely on crime-world mechanics, the show pivots inward—toward the emotional ecosystems of Shannon’s family. Her mother, Cat, her brother Luke, and her formidable grandmother Ollie all orbit this central drama, each carrying their own gravitational pull.
Filmed across the textured streets of Glasgow, ‘Mint’ boasts a cast that blends rising stars with seasoned performers such as Sam Riley, Laura Fraser, Lewis Gribben, Connor Newall and Lindsay Duncan.
