Universal Pictures UK has popped the cork on pure animated chaos, unveiling the first teaser trailer for ‘Minions & Monsters,’ the latest madcap expansion of Illumination’s globe-conquering franchise.

Fresh from the banana-fuelled triumph of ‘Despicable Me 4’ in summer 2024, the studio is steering its beloved yellow troublemakers into even wilder territory. This time, the Minions don’t just stumble into mischief. They cannonball straight through Hollywood, crash into monster mayhem, and somehow end up responsible for saving the entire planet they accidentally threw into disarray. Subtlety was never their brand.

‘Minions & Monsters’ spins a “totally true” tale of the Minions conquering the movie business, basking in fame, spectacularly losing it all, and unleashing creatures that turn the world into a carnival of chaos. What follows is a frantic, heartfelt scramble to put everything back together before the curtain falls for good.

The film is directed by Academy Award nominee Pierre Coffin, who helmed the first three ‘Despicable Me’ films and the original ‘Minions.’ Coffin also returns as the unmistakable voice of the Minions themselves, continuing a performance that has become one of modern animation’s most recognisable sounds.

The screenplay comes from Brian Lynch (Minions, The Secret Life of Pets films) and Coffin, while Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri produces alongside Bill Ryan.
