Rising British star Mia McKenna-Bruce has landed a key role in one of the most anticipated film projects of the decade — the quartet of Beatles biopics from Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes.

The 28-year-old actor, who shot to prominence with her breakout performance in the 2023 Cannes sensation ‘How to Have Sex’ and later took home the BAFTA Rising Star Award, is set to portray Maureen Starkey, the first wife of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.

Maureen, a hairdresser from Liverpool, first met Starr at the iconic Cavern Club, where the band’s legend began. The pair married in 1965, welcoming three children before divorcing a decade later. Maureen passed away in 1994, leaving behind a quiet but enduring place in Beatles history.

McKenna-Bruce joins an already star-studded ensemble, including Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. Saoirse Ronan was also announced this week to play Linda McCartney, the wife of Sir Paul McCartney, to be played by Paul Mescal, further expanding the film’s impressive line-up of British and Irish talent.

Each of Mendes’ four films will tell the story of the Beatles’ extraordinary rise and ultimate breakup through the perspective of a different band member — a cinematic approach billed under the tagline: “Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary.”

The project marks the first-ever Beatles film series fully sanctioned by the band, with complete life story and music rights granted by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison.

All four films are slated to debut theatrically in April 2028, offering audiences a sweeping, interlocking portrait of the band that changed the world.
