It made an estimated $30.1 million this week, bringing the total to nearly $90 million ($89,757,000). It’s been a great year for the studio so far, having scored a huge money-making hat trick with this film and both How to Train Your Dragon and Shrek Forever After.

Tony Scott’s new action thriller Unstoppable (starring Denzel Washington) has debuted at number two, having earned approx $23,500,000. It’s not the biggest opening for the Scott’s and Washington’s work together (that was last year’s The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3) but it’s earned some great reviews and strong word-of-mouth should mean that the film will gain momentum in the coming weeks.

Due Date takes the third position with an impressive total of $59 million so far, although it still has a long way to go before matching director Todd Philipps’ last feature The Hangover, which managed an incredible final US box office gross of over $277 million.
