Principal photography is officially underway on ‘Seance on a Wet Afternoon,’ the latest atmospheric drama from BAFTA award-winning director Tomas Alfredson, whose previous work on ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ and ‘Let the Right One In.’

The screenplay comes from Emmy-winning writer Jack Thorne (Adolescence, Enola Holmes), promising a story steeped in psychological tension and moral shadow. Leading the cast are Emmy and BAFTA winner Matthew Macfadyen (Succession, Deadpool, Death by Lightning) alongside Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz (The Favourite, The Constant Gardener).

The film follows Myra, a self-proclaimed medium who persuades her husband Billy to help orchestrate the kidnapping of a wealthy couple’s son. Her goal is chillingly strategic: guide the authorities to the “missing” child and cement her reputation as a genuine psychic. But when Myra’s deeper motives begin to surface, Billy realizes the scheme may spiral into something far more dangerous, threatening to consume them both.

‘Seance on a Wet Afternoon’ is produced by Robyn Slovo, Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures, alongside Polly Stokes and Rachel Weisz for Astral Projection.

Executive producers include Jack Thorne, Matthew Macfadyen, Farhana Bhula and David Kimbangi for Film4.
